by kclau on February 17, 2009

Facebook is the fastest growing social networking website nowadays. As MySpace biggest competitor, Facebook now lets musicians to create their own page. I’ve tried several networking websites, believe me, Facebook is by far the best and the most enjoyable. Simply said, (almost) everyone is on Facebook.

In this post, I will show you what I learnt about creating a Facebook page from a musician’s point of view. There will be a list of apps that you can take advantage of to promote your music to a new group of fans and followers.

How to Create a Facebook Artist Page

After you registered an account with Facebook, you can create a page to feature your music. Follow the step by step guide below:

  1. Create an artist profile here.
  2. Click the “Artist, Band, or Public Figure” button and select Band or Musician.

Why Facebook Page can help you reach more fans?

1. When other members on Facebook become your fan on your artist page, a newsfeed is created informing her friends about her action. For those who are curious, they will visit your Facebook page and the thing might go viral as long as your music can attract their attention.
You can become my fan and as a result, all your friends will see the news alert that you have interest in my music.

2. Mini-Feed feature let fans have a quick look at what’s new on your page

3. Fans can upload photos and videos to your page.

4. Discussion Boards allow you or your fans to discuss your music

5. Discography: List your complete recorded history

6. Admin Section: Allow others to manage your page.

7. Tracking: Facebook Pages utilize Insights, an analytics package that lets you track Page Views, Unique Views, Fans, New Fans, Removed Fans, Wall Posts, Discussion Topics, Reviews and Photo Views.

Add Music Apps to your Facebook Page

Apps are third party applications, created by some other programmers to be used to help you getting more out of Facebook. Some apps can let you display your music and videos from other website. Here is the list of music-related apps that you should consider adding to your band’s page.

So, what are you waiting for? Create your Facebook page now!

@ David
The artist page is different from your normal facebook account page.
You will have two page - 1 people page, 1 artist page.

There is no need to convert.

I am beginning to see bands use soundcloud to share tunes on facebook. Haven’t figured out how to do so myself yet but really want to. What do you see as the best FB app for streaming your own original music for fans?
