Studio Project C1 Condensor Microphone for Vocal Recording

by kclau on August 20, 2008

I own an Audio Technica  AT4040. This condenser microphone is good. But somehow I feel that it is not suitable to record my voice. The middle range frequency is nice but lacking a bit of treble. An used AT4040 is currently selling at US$150 at eBay.

I am thinking of letting it go for RM600 (for Malaysian only). If you are living in Malaysia and looking for a decent condenser mic, this is a bargain for you. The reason is because I already got another more suitable microphone - The Studio Project C1.

The C1 records crispier sound. I like it more than the AT4040. It is in gold silverish colour, which looks more sexy. I used this mic to record all the vocals for the song Understand.

This post is a part of Understand 明白 Series

Part 1: Songwriting - Fill up the melody

Part 2: Music Arrangement - tritone substitution

Part 3: Vocal recording - introducing Studio Project C1

Part 4: Mixing - totally in the box

Hello KC Lau,did you use the AT4040 or the Studio Projects C1 to record ‘Understand’.I dont understand Chinese but nice song. What was wrong with the At4040 mic? Too much bass for you or too little?

I like Studio Projects C1 more because it captures more treble and sound crispy.

hello KCLAU… im Khairul S. and im trying my best to do great recordings for my songs… and the only best recorded song i did was “she’s my princess”(my myspace profile ada…).. but the problem is.. i’ve been using an RM18 mic to record my voice and my percussion(maracas je koooot)… still… any other songs i record with that mic s*cks..

the thing is now…. i’m really really looking for a CONDENSER microphone and a PRE AMP so that i can record my vox/guitar/anything else…

so i saw your post about your AT4040… the price almost killed me….hehe.. i am still a student and that’s enough to tell you about my budget… so maybe…. you could help me out suggesting me on buying 2 affordable condenser mics and a pre amp(at least 2in/2out) for about amm…. rm500(or so) for the package? :D… thank you

Hi Khairul,

it is really hard to get both below RM500.
If I were you, I will get a condenser mic first.

Hi,

I think the most important is the ability to create great music. Recording is secondary. However, a skillful music producer does add juices to your music.
